President Obama and a fantastic quote

I have had something the President said during the Healthcare summit stuck in my head.

He said, and I am paraphrasing, that we should have a vote, and if the people don’t like it well then that’s what elections are for.

He is absolutely right.  Politicians of all parties should hold that belief.  Do you what you feel good about, what you feel is right and if the majority of voters disagree with you, well to quote Donald Trump, ‘You’re Fired’.  In this case I disagree with the president I think sweeping reform of Health Care is both important and dangerous to our economy.  Yes if we don’t fix Health Care with all the aging baby boomers and influx of illegal aliens as well as uninsured, yes there may be a problem especially to our economy.  I for one can’t afford to pay for 3 families of Health Care.  One is enough.  So yes, it is dangerous because if it is done wrong the fragile economy will get worse.  If it is done right it is likely to help.  Its a fine line, and a tough one but that’s why being President is hard.

That being said, his attempt at a bipartisan meeting was a joke made for TV, and it was pretty bad TV.

Andy Stern, President Obama and Deficit Reduction

I am watching the news this morning and just learned on Fox News that Andy Stern, CEO Of the SEIU is on the deficit reduction commission.  Forgive me for saying that is kind of like a deer hunter having a person tie down the deer before you shoot at it.  Fox News was much nicer about it than I would have been but they are a news show in the morning and not so much an opinion show.  I’ll agree after about 4 in the afternoon they are almost totally opinion but in the morning they are as close to actual news as any morning news show.

I agree the Democrats are planning a huge tax increase and just have not let word out yet.  They are trying to find top cover to get these things through in an election year without getting themselves ‘fired’ during the election as much as they would otherwise.  Don’t get me wrong I think there will be a huge power shift come November this year.

Atlas Shrugged Ayn Rand

I have been reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.  I am maybe 150 pages away from finished.  I have to say it is a good book, not bad.  Its well written (although she could have used an editor and the author is looooooong winded).

I agree with various people.  You can probably go through the current administration and assign some of the characters in the book to various people in the administration and come close.  But I think you can probably say that of the last three administrations.  Maybe not to the extreme that is happening today but it probably works.  That’s the good point to the book.

I have always wondered what would happen if the hard working folks ever left and decided to stop.  I think the book captures it well of the consequences of that.

It is a good book, it probably works for our time and the last 20 years.  More extreme as we go forward in time which is kind of the point of the book…
